Where few go

Some of these places have fewer
people than your street.

Himachal had 1.8 crore visitors in 2024. Most of them never left Manali Mall Road. Saroj has been to all of these, off the highway, off the apps, off the bus routes.

A note from the founder

Saroj Thakur, founder of Wandering Saya Travels, in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
Saroj ThakurBhuntar ยท Kullu

I was born in Bhuntar.I studied tourismso I could take you home.

My whole life has been in this valley. I did hotel management and tourism because I wanted to learn how to host people the way Pahari families already do, properly, slowly, without fuss. I started Wandering Saya Travels in 2017 with one Innova and a notebook of homestay friends. Today we are eight drivers and eleven homestay families. We will not put you on a bus. We will not pretend a place is yours when it is not.

Pahari kitchens, slow festivals

The food is half the
reason you're here.

Every itinerary includes one Pahari kitchen visit, one festival day if the calendar agrees, and one quiet meal you'll think about for years.

Kullu Dussehra procession in Himachal Pradesh, village deities (deotas) on decorated palanquins walking into Dhalpur grounds in October.

Kullu Dussehra ยท October

Who you travel with

Born in these villages.
Cook in their own kitchens.
Walk these trails for work.

01

Drivers

ยท Pahari

Pahari, born in the valley. They drive the way the road asks, slowly, with the weather, never against it.

02

Hosts

ยท Of these houses

Homestay families we have worked with for years. You stay in their rooms, eat at their table, hear about the goats.

03

Guides

ยท Of these trails

From the village, not a website. They know the trails the way you know your own street.

04

Kitchen

ยท Of these tables

Pahari mothers and grandmothers. Siddu, trout, chha gosht, what was on the family table last night, not a menu.

05

Office

ยท In Bhuntar

Small on purpose. You will hear back the same day, in plain words, usually after the drivers come down from the road.

Within 4 hours Saroj sends back a tailored day-by-day plan and a fair quote. Tweak it as much as you want.

Pay 25% to confirm

Balance on arrival in cash, UPI or bank transfer. Free cancellation up to 14 days before. The Saroj Promise covers the rest.

Common questions

Asked us before.
Answered honestly.

How do I book a trip?
Message Saroj on WhatsApp at +91 85809-46251 with your rough dates and group size. She sends back a tailored itinerary and a fair quote within 4 hours. No form, no signup.
How does payment work?
25% advance to confirm dates and reserve homestays. Balance is paid on arrival in cash, UPI, or bank transfer, whichever you prefer.
What if I need to cancel?
Free cancellation up to 14 days before departure. And if a cloudburst or road closure ends your trip mid-way, we refund what hasn't been used, every rupee. We call it the Saroj Promise.
Are the drivers and guides safe?
All eight of our drivers have been working in Himachal for at least seven years. They're our cousins, neighbours, friends. We don't outsource. Trek guides are licensed by Himachal Tourism.
What about food restrictions, kids, or older travellers?
We've hosted vegetarian, Jain, vegan, gluten-free and allergy-sensitive travellers. Tell Saroj on WhatsApp and she'll talk to the kitchens. Kids 5 and up are very welcome; for younger or older travellers we'll talk through altitude and pace.
Can I travel solo?
Yes. About 30% of our travellers come solo. Saroj will match you with the right homestays and route. For solo female travellers, we have specific routes and host families we prefer.
What's actually included?
Private vehicle and driver, all homestay/camp stays, daily breakfast and dinner, local guides on trek days, inner-line permits where needed, and a small welcome pack (hand-drawn map, language card, pressed leaf bookmark). Not included: flights, lunch on the road, personal extras.
